Turbulent brings clean and affordable electricity to remote locations by pioneeringin low head hydropower. Our turbines are compact and easy to install, whatever the
site conditions. We are building a worldwide distributor network while centralizing our
operational and R&D activities in Leuven.
To prepare for a rapid growth in turbine installations we want to extend our team with
a mechanical design engineer, able to grow into a production coordinator.
Your role
Your role will be two-fold:
1. Starting from our existing line of turbines, you will implement product improvements.
You perform mechanical calculations, design components and assemblies, create production drawings, assembly manuals and quality procedures. As such you will actively
contribute to a modular and qualitative line of standard turbines. From time to time,
you will also work on custom turbine designs. (40%)
2. Gradually you will take on tasks to coordinate the production of our turbines. You
gather the production specs and coordinate all suppliers to deliver our turbines within
the expected timeframe and within budget. You organize the production process from
start to finish including supplier-side quality control. You ensure we deliver our turbine
with complete and correct manuals and documentation. Once produced, we need to
ship and install. You will play a key role in these stages as well so we can build a full-process quality manual for operations in the coming year. (60%)
Key responsibilities:
- Mechanical design
- Implementing product improvements
- Creating 2D production plans, manuals, and instructions
- Production of turbines (single units and batches)
- Supplier management
- Leadtime & price negotiations
- Transport management
- Quality assurance (from start to finish)
- Feedback loop from production – assembly – installation towards development
- Higher degree in engineering science, engineering technology, or industrial design
- At least 5y experience with design and production of products
- Expert in SolidWorks (or similar)
- Solid understanding of metal production techniques, materials, tolerances, relevant
- Good technical writing skills
- Able to work in an organized, accurate, and independent way
- Fluent in English
- Able and willing to travel abroad for supplier visits
Your key competences are a mixture of customer orientation, strong communication
skills, diplomacy, decisiveness, sharp eye for improvement and strategic thinking with a
pragmatic, hands-on approach. You are a fast learner and take ownership of your work.
